Minecraft based Therapy

Some children and young people find it difficult to sit and talk about how they feel. They may shut down, say “I don’t know,” or struggle to find the words to explain what is going on inside.

Minecraft-based therapy offers a different way in.

Using Minecraft creatively within sessions can help young people express themselves in a way that feels familiar, natural and less pressured. Rather than relying only on direct questions or conversation, they can build, explore and show their experiences through the world they create.

This is not simply “playing a game”. Minecraft is used as a therapeutic tool to support communication, emotional expression, confidence and self-understanding.

It can be particularly helpful for young people who experience:

  • Anxiety

  • Low mood

  • Low confidence

  • Difficulty opening up

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Social communication difficulties

  • Neurodivergence

  • Avoidance of traditional talking therapy

Minecraft-based therapy may be a good fit if your young person:

  • Finds talking about feelings difficult

  • Feels anxious or overwhelmed in traditional therapy

  • Enjoys Minecraft or creative activities

  • Communicates better through doing rather than direct conversation

  • Needs a gentler, more accessible way to engage

How sessions work

Sessions take place in a calm, supportive therapy space. Minecraft is used intentionally within the session, with gentle reflection and therapeutic support throughout.

The focus is not on gaming skill. The focus is on helping your child feel safe enough to express themselves, feel understood, and begin making sense of their experiences.

Minecraft-based therapy can be offered as part of individual therapy sessions and may be used alongside talking therapy, Lego-based approaches and Domino Therapy where appropriate. I also offer Minecraft based therapy as group sessions.

If you feel Minecraft-based therapy could be a helpful approach for your child, please get in touch to discuss whether it may be suitable.

Next steps for group therapy

I form groups gradually to ensure each young person feels comfortable and supported.

If you’d like to explore whether this might be right for your child, feel free to get in touch. We can have a brief chat so I can understand a little more about them and what they’re finding difficult. I’ll then let you know if there’s a suitable group forming, or keep you updated as one develops. If needed, individual sessions can be a helpful starting point in the meantime.

Alternatively you're very welcome to contact me with an already formed group.

The cost for the full block is £300.
