Specialist emotional support for pupils in primary and secondary education

I offer professional, trauma-informed counselling for children and young people within school settings. My service provides a calm, consistent space where pupils can safely explore their emotions, build resilience, and reconnect with learning.

My previous role as a qualified teacher, allows me to understand the pressures faced by pupils, staff, and the wider school community. My work bridges therapeutic support with an educator’s insight, ensuring counselling fits smoothly into the rhythm of school life.

Why School-Based Counselling?

Many children and young people face emotional challenges that can affect concentration, relationships, and behaviour in school. Having support available on site removes barriers to access and helps pupils feel understood and supported where they spend most of their time.

Counselling in school can help to:

  • Reduce anxiety, low mood, and emotional distress

  • Improve engagement, attendance, and confidence

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Strengthen relationships with peers and staff

  • Enhance overall wellbeing and resilience

Who I Work With

My Approach

I support pupils experiencing:

  • Anxiety, low mood, or exam stress

  • Family breakdown, bereavement, or loss

  • Trauma, neglect, or witnessing domestic conflict

  • Peer conflict, bullying, or social difficulties

  • Emotional dysregulation and behavioural challenges

  • Self-esteem and identity issues

  • School refusal or disengagement

My work is:

  • Relational and child-led – building trust and safety through empathy and consistency

  • Trauma-informed – understanding the impact of early experiences on learning and behaviour

  • Creative and adaptable – using play, art, story, or talking therapy depending on the child’s age and needs

  • School-aware – recognising the realities of timetables, safeguarding, and communication within education

Approaches include person-centred, psychodynamic, and CBT-informed methods, combined with play and creative techniques.
