Information for GPs and Referrers

Private counselling for children, young people and adults

Patchwork Pathways Therapy offers private counselling with Sally Shanahan, an integrative therapist and BACP Registered Member. I provide a warm, non-judgemental space where clients can explore their difficulties, develop a greater understanding of themselves and work towards changes that feel meaningful to them.

Who I support

I welcome enquiries concerning children, young people and adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety, worry and emotional overwhelm

  • Low self-esteem and difficulties with confidence

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • School-related anxiety, attendance difficulties and exam stress

  • Difficult experiences from childhood and their continuing impact

  • Emotional difficulties associated with chronic illness or life changes

Parent support sessions are also available for parents who would like space to understand their child’s emotional needs and consider how to support them.

An initial discussion helps us consider whether my approach is suitable for the individual’s needs.

Appointments and fees

In-person appointments are available in Milton Keynes, Northamptonshire at Northampton Therapy Rooms in Quinton and my private therapy room nearby. Online appointments are also available.

Please see the fees and booking page for current prices and options. Availability can be checked online or by contacting me directly

Approach

Sally Shanahan

BACP Registered Member — MBACP

I work integratively, drawing on person-centred, relational, psychodynamic, attachment-informed and cognitive behavioural approaches. Sessions are shaped around the individual’s needs, preferences and pace.

With children and young people, creative activities, drawing, games and sand tray may support expression when talking feels difficult..

Making a referral

Clients and parents or carers can contact me directly; a GP referral is not required.

GPs and other professionals are welcome to make an initial enquiry with the individual’s consent.

Please use my website contact form to discuss suitability and the next steps. For an initial enquiry, a brief outline of the support required is sufficient.

Confidentiality and professional communication

Confidentiality and its limits are discussed at the outset of therapy. Any routine communication with a GP or other professional is agreed with the client, including what information may be shared.

For children and young people, arrangements for parental involvement and information sharing are discussed as part of the assessment and contracting process, taking account of the young person’s needs and understanding.

Information may need to be shared where safeguarding concerns or legal obligations require this.

Enquire about a referral

Please get in touch to discuss suitability, current availability or the referral process.
