Trauma & Childhood Experiences

I provide counselling for children, young people and adults who may be affected by trauma or difficult experiences from childhood.

These experiences can shape how we feel about ourselves, others, and the world, often long after the events themselves have passed.

Sometimes, the impact isn’t always obvious, but is felt in the way we think, feel, or relate to others.

Understanding the impact

Trauma and difficult childhood experiences can affect people in different ways.

You might find yourself feeling anxious, on edge, or easily overwhelmed. You may struggle with self-esteem, relationships, or a sense of feeling safe in the world.

At times, it can feel difficult to understand why certain feelings or patterns keep showing up.

You might be experiencing

The impact of trauma or childhood experiences can show up in many ways, including:

  • anxiety or constant worry

  • feeling overwhelmed or emotionally reactive

  • low self-esteem or self-criticism

  • difficulty trusting others

  • feeling disconnected or numb

  • relationship difficulties

  • intrusive thoughts or memories

  • a sense of feeling “stuck”

  • patterns that are hard to change

A safe space to explore

I provide a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space where we can gently begin to explore your experiences together.

There is no pressure to revisit anything before you feel ready. We will work at your pace, focusing on building a sense of safety and understanding first.

How therapy can help

Therapy is not about going over everything all at once. It is about creating a space where your experiences can be understood, at a pace that feels manageable.

Over time, this can help you:

  • make sense of your experiences

  • understand patterns in thoughts and relationships

  • feel more grounded and regulated

  • develop a kinder relationship with yourself

  • begin to move forward in a way that feels safe
